Our service event for November we are calling a Thankfulness Challenge. We are inviting everyone to collect items for the Ronald McDonald House needs list. The list can be found at www.rmhmn.org/needslist. Any items collected can be brought to my office. People are also invited to make fleece tie blankets as well. We will deliver all of these items the week of Thanksgiving, so please bring in items by Sunday, November 20.

Finally, I have tickets for The Reason Christmas Concert (featuring Switchfoot & Tenth Avenue North) on Sunday, December 4 at the Mayo Civic Center. The concert begins at 6 pm and we will meet in the church parking lot at 4:30 pm. We will be taking the big blue bus for this concert. Tickets cost $12 and checks can be made out to St. John’s.

Beginning November 13 in the Fireside Room (not meeting the 27)

Did you know we spend over $450 billion on Christmas every year?  In this study we’ll be learning about ways we can turn from our consumerist culture and be compassionate by spending less, giving more, loving all, and worshipping fully this holiday season.

Sign up at www.stjohnskasson.org/adventconspiracy, at the Welcome Center, or in the office.  Cost is $10

Wednesday Worship Services

Our Wednesday worship services will now have a different theme than our Sunday services. Join us as we study Martin Luther and the catechism. We are celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in 2017.

WELCA News

by Kay Hodge

The women of St. John’s will be busy ladies for the next two months. On November 13 Shirley Gangstad will be delivering our message as we celebrate THANK OFFERING Sunday. The women will be bold participants of the service that Sunday. We bring our offerings of thanks for the past year, offerings financial and for the food shelf. Any woman or child who would like to be a part of this service, please join us as we bring those offerings forward. We will provide envelopes for the financial offerings and also have some small grocery bags for our little women to carry to the front of the church.

December brings us to the Christmas Luncheon on December 10 where we celebrate Advent together with a room full of women served a lunch by the men of St. John’s. Be on the watch for the details of this event.

A Successful Lutefisk Dinner

Lutefisk 2016 was a wonderful community event with 1983 meals served (up from 1925 last year). We would like to extend a sincere thank you to all who so graciously served the many guests who so appreciated the wonderful meal and great fellowship. Hundreds of hours went into the planning and preparation of this meal and St. John’s really knows how to ‘serve fish with a flair.’ Thank you ALL!

Operation Christmas Child Needs

We’ve had great support for this year’s Operation Christmas Child collection season, but we have five more packing days left and have a couple of needs now through November 13:

  • Empty shoe boxes – big need!
  • More items from the donation list (at www.stjohnskasson.org/operation-christmas-child-gift-suggestions or at the Welcome Center)
  • Financial donations to purchase items not given
  • Boxes and items can be left in the box in the narthex and financial donations can be left in the offering plate (clearly marked for Operation Christmas Child) or in the office.

Thanks Giving

Faithful giving to St. John’s Lutheran Church enables us to continue our ministry within our congregation, community, state, the wider church, and throughout the world.
