Join us for the Brat & Pie Social

Come out to join us for our annual Brat & Pie Social! St. John’s Adult Fellowship group will serve up a meal of hotdogs or brats, chips, and a drink for $2 (hot dogs) or $3 (brats). The WELCA ladies will be serving pie and ice cream for a freewill offering. And Don and Peggy Holtan are back with their “old time musical selections” for your entertainment. Enjoy a fun evening and bring some friends! Event is held rain or shine.

Upcoming fundraisers for the school in Haiti

As part of our ministry partnership in Haiti, the team travelling to Haiti this summer is hosting some upcoming fundraisers to help build the school:

  • Burger Night at the American Legion in Kasson – Friday, May 19, 5:30-7:00 pm. Cost is $8/person.
  • BBQ themed evening with music and dinner at St. John’s – Wednesday, May 24, 5:30-7:00 pm. Freewill donations.

Confirmation group serving on March 19

On Sunday, March 19, the Sunday Confirmation Group will be serving breakfast in the Fellowship Hall 8:30 am –10:30 am. All proceeds will benefit their trip to confirmation camp this summer.

Palm Sunday Brunch & Silent Auction

Youth will be serving breakfast and hosting a silent auction on Palm Sunday (April 9) to raise funds for camp this summer. They are seeking items that can be donated to the silent auction. If you have an item to donate, you may contact Lindsay at Lindsay@stjohnskasson.org or bring your item to the office.

Laughter & Lunch at annual Women’s Christmas Luncheon

revkev-christmasSt. John’s Annual WELCA Christmas Luncheon will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016. Doors open at 9:00 am and the program begins at 10 am.

The featured speaker will be Kevin Doely. He is a pastor, ventriloquist, author, and musician.

According to his website, “Audiences are laughing out loud at Kevin’s lifelike vent figures and puppets. He uses a blend of comedy, storytelling, music, and audience participation…Kevin will entertain…while teaching valuable lessons.”

Music entertainment will be provided by Samantha Tripp.

If you are interested in purchasing a ticket, there are sign-up sheets on the WELCA board and in the office. Tickets are $12 each.

Take out meals available

Take out meals will be available for the Lutefisk Dinner. If you wish to call ahead and have a takeout meal delivered curbside to you in the parking lot, please call (507) 634-7110 beginning Monday, October 24. Inform the parking lot attendant if you have called ahead and are picking up a takeout meal; they will direct you to the takeout parking area.

Join the hundreds of visitors and volunteers for our annual Lutefisk Dinner! This event is a family tradition, bridging across all ages and groups in our congregation and bringing families from throughout not only our community but from all across the country!

Menu: Lutefisk, lefse, meatballs in gravy, mashed potatoes, cranberry relish, rutabagas, cabbage slaw, Norwegian baked goods

Oasis Meals Resume

Oasis Meals resume Wednesday, September 14 and will once again be catered by Country Pleasures. Meals are served 5:15 pm – 6:15 pm. Prices remain the same as last year – $5/person or $20/family. Punch cards will be available for purchase and families will be able to pay with credit/debit card.

Brat & Pie Social August 18

Join us on Thursday, August 18 for the Annual Brat and Pie Social at St. John’s. The entire community is invited. Don and Peggy Holtan will be playing their “Old Time” musical selections from 5 to 7 pm in the Fellowship Hall. The Adult Fellowship group will be cooking up and serving brats and hot dogs along with chips and beverages for a small charge. WELCA ladies will be serving pie and ice cream for a free will offering. Everyone is invited to join us for a fun social get-together with good food and great music! Be sure to invite a friend!

CKP Sunday is March 13, Preschool Registration Starts

CKP Sunday is March 13. It is a big day for Creation Kids Preschool! The children will have many of their projects on display and will sing at the 10:15 am service.

The children are inviting their families and friends to come to this service. Some of the students are members of other congregations so help us welcome them. We will be serving coffee between services and hope you will be able to join us.

Enrollment for the 2016-2017 school year will begin that day. Board and staff members will be available to answer any questions you might have.

CKP will also serve chicken and wild rice soup for the Lent soup supper Wednesday, March 16.

Seder Meal 2016

Cancelled!

Due to predictions of dangerous road conditions, we have cancelled this service.

Join us for a traditional Jewish Seder meal and worship service Wednesday, March 23, 6:30 pm. We need to plan, so let us know if you’re coming and if you can help by bringing an item. See the below for descriptions of what is needed.

Seder Meal Needs

If you’re coming to the Seder Meal & Worship on Wednesday, April 1, 6:30 pm, you can help by bringing one of the following!

  • Matzos – Small crackers or unleavened bread.
    Need: 2 families to bring 100 pieces each
  • Bitter Herbs – romaine lettuce leaves
    Need: 3 families to bring 50-75 leaves each
  • Grape Juice – red grape juice, frozen concentrate
    Need: 2 families to bring 3 large cans (or 9 small cans) each
  • Charoset – 8 cups finely chopped apples, 4 cups finely chopped almonds or walnuts, 8 teaspoons of cinnamon, a little orange juice to help mix items together
    Need: 2 families to bring one batch each
  • Beitzah – hard boiled eggs
    Need: 3 families to bring 50 each
  • Karpas – parsley
    Need: 2 families to bring 75 each

CKP Update, Breakfast January 17

Happy New Year from Creation Kids Preschool (CKP) students, staff and board! What a great school year for us. We have two new students and our classes are now full.

Our bridge students will begin attending a full day each Wednesday for the rest of our school year. We feel this will help with the transition to full day kindergarten in the fall.

CKP will serve the congregation breakfast on January 17. We look forward to seeing you there.

You are invited to join the CKP students in chapel each Thursday. Morning children have chapel at 10:25 and afternoon children go at 2:25.

Oasis Meals – November 2015
