God Has a Mission. God’s Mission Has a Church.

Pastor Dana

Pastor Dana O’Brien
Associate Pastor

For the four Sundays in April (and the Wednesdays immediately preceding) we’ll be talking all about where the church fits in God’s mission today. If you’ve been wondering what we’re talking about when we speak of the missional church and how we as church fit into a changing culture, check it out during the month of April.

And if you’d like to look at this topic in more depth, contact Pastor Dana to get on the daily email devotions list. Each day during the series the devotion for the day will focus on various aspects of what it means to live as church in our daily lives. Send an email to to be added to the list!

CKP Registration, Upcoming Events

Didn’t the children do a great job on CKP Sunday? Peter Foley, in his temple talk, told us how blessed parents feel having a Christian preschool for their children. What an outreach program we have at St. John’s!

Registration for the 2016-2017 school year is open. Information is available at and you may contact staff, board members or Phyllis Sands with any questions.

We will have a booth with program and registration information at the Dodge County Expo on Saturday, April 2.
Monday, April 4, we will have an open house in the classrooms at St. John’s for preschool age children and their parents. The open house will be 5:30-7:00 pm.

Our classes are half days. The morning classes are 8:15-1:00 am and afternoon classes are 12:00-2:45 pm. We will continue to have a two-day program for 3’s, a three-day program for 4s, and a four-day program for Bridge students. In January the Bridge students begin having one full day each week to help prepare for the transition to full day kindergarten.

Congregational Input Days

RevisionRevampPlan to be at worship on Wednesday, April 27 or Sunday, May 1 for a visioning process!

We will share the scripture readings and sermon in a participatory style. Scripture passages will be presented and each person will be asked to mark a card indicating her or his choices of interpretation in response to the passages.

After sharing communion, along with prayer, we will engage everyone in a casual conversation of what is valued at
St. Johns, asking three simple questions:

  • Past: What is a time or specific event that spiritually touched you where you felt most alive in your faith journey?
  • Present: What is it about your congregation that you value most ?
  • Future: If God gave you three wishes for the future of your congregation, what would they be?

Do some praying about your participation with this experience and some reflecting on these perspectives ahead of time. One of our goals with the Revision Revamp 2016 process is for full congregation input into where we trust that God is leading us, the missional directions that are given for the next five years as a congregation. We are not there yet. We are striving to listen well. We are gathering input.

8-12th graders are invited to a retreat April 16-17. We leave at 2 pm on Saturday and return around 3:30 pm on Sunday. The deadline to sign up is April 6. This is a leadership retreat and planning for the coming school year. Sign-up is in the office.

April Movie – The Music Man

With spring in the air (and hopefully on the ground as well) we’ll watch a springy type movie on April 11 at 7 pm. Come see The Music Man, starring Robert Preston and the confidence man who intends to scam a town by offering to equip and train a boys marching band . . . until he falls for librarian Shirley Jones (yup, the same love interest as in Oklahoma – that Shirley definitely gets around). See a fun movie with lots of great songs and enjoy some good food and wonderful company (at 506 7th Ave. NE).
